Thought crimes? How 1984!

My wife and I have been co writing a sci fi adventure about a group of people who flee a society in which 1984 has gone wild. They go to another planet far away to try again with a society based on the morals of the Founding Fathers.
In working on this book, we started doing a lot of researching, which, long story short, led to my conscious mind being reinvigorated into politics. Exploring the morass of what today’s politics is bringing to the table however, makes me wonder how far off we were in our assumptions and suppositions about how far we carried the socialist theme into the future.
This article, which I would recommend everyone peruse, makes me wonder even more if we didn’t play it a little too shy on where we carried it to in our story plot.
